Dr. Erekat: We regret the Canadian government’s decision to stand on the wrong side of history

We regret the Canadian government’s decision to stand on the wrong side of history by blindly supporting the Israeli occupation and its apartheid policies. Canadian FM John Baird has contributed to Israeli violations of Palestinian inalienable rights, including our right to selfdetermination, by systematically lobbying against all Palestinian diplomatic initiatives. This includes his attempts to legitimize the illegal Israeli annexation of Occupied East Jerusalem. The Palestinian people as well as the rest of the Arab and Muslim countries deserve an apology from the Canadian government for years of systematic attempts at blocking the right of the Palestinian people to a state of their own.

It is important to thank Canadian citizens who have joined campaigns to end the Israeli occupation. We also thank all international officials who have declined to meet with Mr. Baird after his infamous attempt at legitimizing the illegal Israeli annexation of Occupied East Jerusalem by meeting with Israeli officials in the Occupied city in violation of Security Council resolution 476.

On that note, we call upon the Arab League, the Organization of the Islamic Conference and all peace-loving countries to act against the attempts of the Canadian government at legitimizing the systematic denial of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.
