Ramallah, [May 5, 2025] – HE Hussein Al-Sheikh, Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and Vice President of the State of Palestine, received today a delegation from the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, headed by HE Ambassador Monika Schmutz Kirgöz, Head of the MENA division. The Swiss Representative to the OPt, Ms. Anna Lise Catan-Hennin, was also present. The two sides discussed the latest political and humanitarian developments in the Palestinian territories, particularly in the Gaza Strip.
During the meeting, Al Sheikh stressed the importance of reaching a permanent ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, which would ensure an end to the ongoing aggression and pave the way for a comprehensive solution to the humanitarian catastrophe in the Strip.
He also stressed the need to intensify international efforts to pressure the Strip to receive urgent humanitarian relief, given the catastrophic conditions facing the population. He noted that the continued blockade and the disruption of aid constitute a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.
The two sides also stressed the importance of the upcoming international conference next June, as it would provide a serious opportunity to revitalize the two-state solution, based on international law, as the only path capable of achieving a just and lasting peace in the region. For her part, Ambassador Kirgöz affirmed Switzerland's support for the rights of the Palestinian people, the need to end the violence, and ensure the unrestricted flow of humanitarian aid.
