Vice President Hussein Al Sheikh Discusses Developments in Palestine and Legislative Elections with the Vice-President of the European Commission

Ramallah—October 6, 2026— During a phone call with the Vice-President of the European Commission, H.E. Ms. Kaja Kallas, His Excellency Hussein Al Sheikh, Vice President of the State of Palestine, discussed the latest political and on-the-ground developments, the situation in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, and preparations for the Palestinian legislative elections scheduled for next November.

Al Sheikh addressed the ongoing settler attacks and Israeli violations in the West Bank, the accompanying deterioration of security and humanitarian conditions, and the tragic and catastrophic situation in the Gaza Strip, emphasizing the need for continued international efforts to provide relief and aid to the Palestinian people.

Al Sheikh also commended the European Union’s stance on the Palestinian cause and its efforts to provide aid and relief to the Gaza Strip, while stressing the importance of continued European support under these difficult circumstances.  He further called for European support to help overcome any obstacles to holding the elections, ensuring the participation of all our people in the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip in the electoral process.

For her part, H.E. Ms. Kallas affirmed the European Union's readiness to deploy an election observation mission to monitor the Palestinian legislative elections scheduled for November. She underscored the importance of holding credible, inclusive, and transparent elections. This step aligns with the EU’s stated position in support of the Palestinian legislative elections.
