Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and Vice President of the State of Palestine, HE Hussein Al Sheikh, received today British Consul General to the OPt, HE  Ms. Helen Winterton, to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations and prospects for future cooperation between the two sides.
Al Sheikh welcomed the MoU recently signed between the Palestinian and UK governments, as a clear symbol of continued British support for the Palestinian state and a significant step towards elevating bilateral relations between the two countries.
Al Sheikh stressed the importance of building on this step by recognizing the State of Palestine, as an urgent necessity to preserve the prospects for a two-state solution and achieve the aspirations of the Palestinian people for freedom and self-determination.
Al Sheikh also presented the ongoing efforts undertaken by the Palestinian leadership in security, administrative, and financial reform, affirming the Palestinian government's commitment to enhancing transparency and efficiency and building effective institutions. Al Sheikh stressed that the urgent priority now is to achieve an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and end the devastating war. He called for ensuring the safe and immediate flow of humanitarian aid to end the humanitarian catastrophe facing the Gaza Strip's residents.
Ms. Winterton, in turn, affirmed her country's support for the political path that achieves a negotiated two-state solution, and congratulated Al Sheikh on his appointment as Vice President of the State of Palestine.
Finally, Al Sheikh expressed his appreciation for the UK's support, calling for continued coordination and cooperation to support Palestinian rights and efforts for a just and comprehensive peace in the region.
