Israeli Official Incitement: April 2019

This report includes examples of the Israeli official incitement against the Palestinian prisoners, martyrs, and their families, the indigenous Palestinian citizens of Israel, Human Rights Defenders, as well as statements against the President of the State of Palestine and the Palestinian leadership.

I. Palestinian Prisoners and Martyrs and their Families

Yisrael Beitenu published a video on Twitter on 7 April inciting against Palestinian prisoners

Avigdor Lieberman speaks in the video:

"In the next Knesset we will advance the death penalty law for terrorists, till then we have been working on depriving them overstated rights in regards to decreasing sentence by one third, they will remain in prison until they finish their sentences.”

Minister of Public Security, Minister of Strategic Affairs, Minister of Information MK (Likud) Gilad Erdan (Israel’s Army Radio, 6 April)

“My policy is not to bow to hunger strikes. I recall that we ended the biggest hunger strike led by Barghouthi without granting terrorists any right or achievement, I hope that this hunger strike will end up the same way. This strike is led by Hamas terrorists who are opposing the policy of banning smuggled mobiles that they use to carry out operations.”

Minister of Education, Minister of Diaspora Affairs, Head of “Hayamin Hahadash" – The New Right Party, MK Naftali Bennett (Twitter, 6 April)

“The Prime Minister's approval to give Hamas terrorists phones in the Israeli prison is a shameful bow to the threats of Yihya Al-Sinwar.  I call on Prime Minister Netanyahu to retract his decision. Terrorists-murderers who decide to launch a hunger strike – let them do it.”

Member of “Ihud Miflegot Hayamin" – Union of Right Wing Parties, MK Bezalel Smotrich (Twitter, 6 April)

“…These absurd negotiations with Hamas prisoners is another record of surrender and weakness. Let them launch a hunger strike as they want till they die, without force-feeding or shoes. I call on Netanyahu to retract any dialogue with the terrorists in prison.”

Head of "Tzomet" Party, MK Oren Hazan (Facebook, 3 April)

“Do you want to become martyrs, we will eliminate you and burry you with pigs, nothing will help you we will deport you and kill the animals whom you are raising their pictures. Terrorists must be killed with a bullet in the head…you are despicable you are rubbish, you must be deported, your terrorist/animal sons must die, we will close your mouths. We will stop the transfer of money, we will kill your family…not with our souls and blood but with our power, if you want bloodshed you will get bloodshed.”

Member of “Ihud Miflegot Hayamin" – Union of Right Wing Parties, Itamar Ben Gvir (Twitter, 1 April)

“…In the Knesset, I am going to apply the death penalty for terrorists…not by words but by actions.”

II. The Ongoing Israeli Assault on Gaza

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Chairman of Likud (Kan Bet Radio, 5 April)

“I must say that all the possibilities include a military campaign and reoccupation of the strip in accordance with the interest of Israel.”

Former Chief of Staff of the Israeli occupying army, Head of “Kahol Lavan" – Blue White Party, Benny Gantz (Twitter, 4 April)

“I recall many cases on the borders with terrorists. Those terrorists won’t have the right to return home…the houses in Shuja’yah were erased when they confronted the soldiers because this is what we must do, I know how to activate the power when necessary."

III. Human Rights Defenders

Minister of Public Security, Minister of Strategic Affairs, Minister of Information, MK (Likud) Gilad Erdan against Omar Shaker, the Israel and Palestine Director of Human Rights Watch ( Twitter, 16 April)

“I congratulate the District Court in Jerusalem, which approved today my position and the position of the Interior Minister to annul the work permit of BDS activist Omar Shaker and expel him from Israel. I will continue to fight those employing BDS activities who are attempting to harm Israel and its citizens. We won't allow them to call for the boycott of Israel under the cover of 'Human Rights Activists' as Shaker did."

Minister of the Interior, Minister of the Development of the Negev and Galilee MK (Shas) Aryeh Deri (Twitter, 16 April)

“ Today the Jerusalem District court approved my position of not extending the work permit for Omar Shaker due to his support to BDS.. it is not acceptable for anyone who calls for the boycott of Israel to ask the state to open its door for him.”

IV. The Indigenous Palestinian Citizens of Israel

Finance Minister, MK (Kulanu) Moshe Kahlon requested the Attorney General to check if Jaffa Theater is planning to organize an activity with the participation of a BDS activist and to commemorate the Nakba anniversary (Channel 7, 16 April)

“I asked the attorney general in my office to check this activity. If the details are correct I will stop funding this place. It is not possible that the state of Israel funds activities that call for its boycott. I fight BDS in every possible mean.”

Minister of Culture, MK (Likud) Miri Regev (Channel 7, 16 April)

“Holding an activity that is against Israel in Jaffa Theater, which is a cultural institution supported by the money of the tax payers in Israel, seems to be a violation to one of the items of Nakba law.”

Minister of Public Security, Minister of Strategic Affairs, Minister of Information, MK (Likud) Gilad Erdan (Twitter, 8 April)

“Ayman Odeh the main inciter and supporter for terrorism causes the biggest harm to the security of Arab citizens. All the Arab citizens of Israel must know that because of representatives like him…the rate of violence is still high in the Arab towns…”

 V. President Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian Leadership

Member of “Ihud Miflegot Hayamin" – Union of Right Wing Parties, MK Bezalel Smotrich (Twitter, 22 April)

“I call on the Prime Minister Netanyahu to deter the French hypocrisy and send Macron to pressure Abu Mazen to stop paying salaries to terrorists. As long as the Palestinian Authority encourages terrorism against Israel and pays wages to terrorists, it is forbidden to transfer to them one shekel. Let it collapse. We will win two birds with a blow.”

Knesset Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, MK (Likud) Avi Dichter against the request of the French President to transfer the withheld tax revenues to the Palestinian Government (Channel 7, 22 April)

“I wonder what would the president of France say if he found out that the Palestinian Authority is paying a monthly salary of 12000 Nis to the murderer Carlos” the fox” who is jailed in their prison after he received life sentence for carrying out serious terror attacks…Mr. Macron please accept a free advice from someone who has been combating terrorism for the past 50 years: in the war on terrorism: the state does not count funds- will count the corpses”.

VI. Additional Examples

Minister of Education, Minister of Diaspora Affairs, Head of “Hayamin Hahadash" – The New Right Party, MK Naftali Bennett in a video talking to a white pigeon (Twitter, 3 April)

“Your problem is the trust, you give up easily, you are naive. This is not the way to make peace, because of you we almost lost hope. Raise your head and remember that you are right, fight, conquer and strike them hard.”

Member of “Ihud Miflegot Hayamin" –Union of Right Wing Parties, MK Bezalel Smotrich (Twitter, 2 April)

“We as members of the Union of the right parties are committed to eliminate terrorists, impose deterrence and restore security…”

Member of “Ihud Miflegot Hayamin" –Union of Right Wing Parties, MK Bezalel Smotrich (Twitter, 1 April)

“…whoever goes out to kill Jews must know that his home will be demolished on the spot. Also whoever aids, gives shelter and then is involved in helping [the attacker] to flee must know that his home will be demolished and his family will be displaced.”
