MONTHLY SUMMARY OF ISRAELI VIOLATIONS

The following summary tables and overview of events survey hostile Israeli activities during the period 01 August 2017 to August 31 2017. The report includes a summary table of events, classified by type, throughout the West Bank and Gaza Strip, in addition to a comparative table surveying events over the past three months. The survey is compiled from the Daily Situation Reports of the Palestinian Monitoring Group (PMG) of the Negotiations Affairs Department (NAD) of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). The PMG monitors ground conditions in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, including Israeli and Palestinian violations. The information reported through the PMG process represents data available at the time of distribution only. 

 

Sample of Israeli Violations during the Month of August  2017

  • 4 August: 3 residents { including a child}: Jasser Abu Tarabish {12 years old}, Mohammad Al-Daba' and Tamer Wahish were injured after Israeli forces fired stun and tear gas canisters towards several residents during demonstrations in east Jabaliaya town {As previously mentioned in the report of August 5th 2017}.
  • 4 August: A demonstration took place in Khursa village protesting against settlement construction and demanding the removal of the Israeli Military watch tower installed near the village entrance during which Israeli Forces fired rubber coated steel bullets stun and tear gas canisters towards several demonstrators for alleged stoning and as a result injured :Waleed Assaf { A Palestinian Authority Ministers of Wall and Settlement Resistance Committee} and left several others suffocated from tear gas inhalation.
  • 10 August: The 4 children: Anas Al-Haymouni {9 years old}, Yusef Mazen Ruman {7 years old}, Ameer Abu Subeih {10 years old} and Hamza Abu Subeih {6 years old} were hospitalized with contusions after they were ran over by an Israeli Settlers vehicle in Silwan neighborhood.
  • 11 August: Israeli forces positioned behind the Green Line fired stun and tear gas grenades towards several demonstrators in east Jabaliya town and as a result injured unidentified child.
  • 11 August: Israeli Naval vessels opened fire towards Palestinian fishing boats off the shores of Al-Sudaniya area located in west Beit Lahiya town and temporarily detained 2 residents: Sadam Abdel-Bari Al-Sultan and Oday Abdel-Bari Al-Sultan  after confiscating their fishing boat.
  • 16 August: The child Mohammad Ayman Shukri Qandah {17 years old} was hospitalized after he was injured during clashes in Abu Sheikhdom village.
  • 19 August: Israeli forces positioned at Za'tara junction Military checkpoint opened fire towards the child: Qutayba Ziyad Yusef Zahran {17 years old} and as a result killed him for allegedly attempting to stab an Israeli Soldier.
  • 25 August: Israeli forces fired rubber coated steel bullets, stun and tear gas grenades towards several residents who were participating in demonstrations against the closure of the east entrance of Kafr Qaddum village and as a result injured 3 residents including a child: Khalifa Riyad Ishtewi {12 years old}, Yusef Salah Ishtwei and Yazan Muntasir Barham  and left several others suffocated from tear gas inhalation.
  • 26 August: On the morning of August 26th 2017, a Israeli settler travelling along the main road in Faroush Beit Dajan village ran over and killed the child Aseel Tariq Abu Own {8 years old} {A resident of Jaba' town in Jenin district}.
  • 28 August: Israeli forces injured 2 residents: Ahmad Ali Hassan Hashash {17 years old}, Mohammad Atta Abu Al-Khier during clashes in Nablus city.
  • 28 August: a group of Israeli settlers from "Kiryat Araba" settlement located in the old city of Hebron assaulted Ahmad Manour Jaber {13 years old} as he was riding his horse and as a result left him hospitalized with contusions.

  • August 10th 2017: Israeli forces demolished 2 homes owned by the families of Bara Ibrahim Atta and Osama Ahmad Ata {both were killed by Israeli forces} in Deir Abu Masha'al village.
  • August 10th 2017: Israeli forces demolished a home owned by the family of Mailk Hamad during their raid into Silwad town.
  • August 15th 2017: Israeli forces demolished a home {consisting of 2 floors} owned by Ahmad Qaher Hamdan and Abdallah Qaher Hamdan in Al-Eisawiya village for allegedly being built without a license
  • August 15th 2017: Israeli forces demolished a merchant shop owned by Na'im Abu Dawih in Al-Sa'la area located between Jabal Al-Mukabir and Silwan neighborhoods in Jerusalem city for allegedly being built without a license.
  • August 23rd 2017: Israeli forces demolished a home owned by Abdel-Kareem Abu Sineneh in Silwan neighborhood for allegedly being built without a license.

Ramallah & Al-Bireh:

  • August 16th 2017: Israeli forces demolished the family home of Omar Abed Khalil Al-Abed {A Palestinian Detainee} during their raid into Kubar village.
  • August 17th 2017: Israeli forces demolished the family home of Adel Anqoush {who was killed by Israeli forces} in Deir Abu Mash'al village.

Hebron:

  • August 14th 2017: Israeli forces demolished 3 mobile homes {Donated by the European Union and houses 20 residents} owned by Al-Hathalin family in Khashim Al-Darj village located in east Yatta.

  • August 16th 2017: Israeli settlers installed 10 Mobile homes inside "Betar Aliyat settlement" located on land in Nihalin, Husan and Wadi Fuqin villages.
  • August 17th 2017: Israeli forces stormed Um Al-Khier village located in east Yatta town and levelled several plots of land owned by Abu Hameed Familiy which is located near "Karma'il" settlement located in the east area.

Hebron:

  • August 24th 2017: Israeli Military leveled a plot of land owned by the Zien, Abu Hameed and Al-Hathalin families located near "Karama'il" settlement in east Yatta town for the purpose of expanding the settlement during which Israeli forces assaulted a resident.

North Gaza (4), Khan Yunis (2) and Rafah (2). Among those arrested by the Israeli military were: 67 children, 11 women, 7 Security officers, 2 PLC Members, 1 University student and 1 journalist.

Israeli forces temporarily detained 57 Palestinians including a Children, 2 Women, 2 fishermen and a journalist.

 

 

 

Closure

Especially on Fridays, the Israeli military continues to intensify restrictions at checkpoints located at the entrances of Jerusalem, and to restrict entrance to the Al Aqsa Mosque compound in the old city of Jerusalem, preventing worshippers from accessing the Mosque. At the Qalandiya checkpoint north of Jerusalem, the Israeli military continues to prevent PNA registered civilian vehicles from crossing the checkpoint towards Ar Ram and Qalandiya as well as Dahiyat al Bareed. The checkpoint is overcrowded daily, particularly during rush hours, due to intensified restrictions and search measures applied by Israeli troops. During the month of January the Israeli military also continued to intensify restrictions at the Tayasir checkpoint and Al Hamra junction checkpoint leading to the Jordan Valley area, only allowing access to civilians whose IDs indicate District of Jericho residence or others holding special access permits. In addition, restrictions were intensified and civilian access was obstructed at the Za’tara junction checkpoint (separating the northern and central West Bank districts) as well as at the As Sawahira ash Sharqiya (the ‘Container’) checkpoint (separating the central and southern West Bank districts).

The Israeli military installed 405 flying checkpoints in August 2017 (compared with 527 in July 2017 and 386 in June 2017) and as a result restricted the free access and movement of residents, merchant supplies and agricultural goods.

The Israeli military carried out 18 attacks during confrontations between the Israeli military and Palestinians, 20 attacks from Israeli military post on civilian homes and property, 66 from Military checkpoints towards Palestinian residents and vehicle and 70 during raids into Civilian populated areas. Jerusalem:

  • August 2nd 2017: Israeli forces raided the Bedouin Community located in North east Anata town and served military orders for the demolition of 23 residential homes and gave residents 72 hours to remove their belongings from the homes in order to implement the demolition order.
  • August 8th 2017: Israeli forces demolished a merchant shop and a livestock den owned by Bashar Anbar in Beit Hanina town for allegedly being built without a license.
  • August 15th 2017: Israeli forces demolished a Car Wash owned by Bader Family in Beit Hanina town for allegedly being built without a license.
  • August 15th 2017: Israeli forces demolished a merchant shop owned by Na'im Abu Dawih in Al-Sa'la area located between Jabal Al-Mukabir and Silwan neighborhoods in Jerusalem city for allegedly being built without a license.
  • August 20th 2017: Israeli forces demolished a Plant shop in Hizma town and confiscated several plant and pottery.
  • August 21st 2017: Israeli forces demolished a kindergarten in the Bedouin community of Jabal Baba located in east Al-Eizariya town.
  • August 28th 2017: Israeli forces stormed "Bayous" Cultural center in Jerusalem city and prevented the launch of a cultural event then forcibly removed several residents from inside the center after issuing a military order for its closing and prevented them from hosting any events.

Ramallah:

  • August 10th 2017: Israeli forces sealed off the entrances of the family home owned by Adel Hassan Ankoush {who was killed by Israeli forces} during their raid into Deir Abu Mash'al village.
  • August 31st 2017: Israeli forces demolished a vehicle repair garage during their raid into Al-Amari camp in Al-Bireh city

Jenin:

  • August 16th 2017: Israeli forces demolished a coal factory owned by Waleed Al-Abadi and Subhi Zied in Al-Mafahim area in Ya'bad town.

Salfit:

  • August 23rd 2017: Israeli forces shut down electrical grid in Bidiya town this cutting off electricity to residents for a period of 3 hours for alleged electricity debts for the municipality.

Bethlehem:

  • August 2nd 2017: Israeli forces raided Al-Walaja village and served military orders to demolish several homes for allegedly being built without a license.

Hebron:

  • August 10th 2017: Israeli forces raided the old city of Hebron and stormed offices of the Palestinian Authority Ministries of Interior, Justice and Labor.
  • August 24th 2017: Israeli forces closed several merchant shops in the old city of Hebron.
  • August 31st 2017: Israeli forces sealed closed “Manbar Al-Huriya” {Freedom Platform} radio station for a period of 6 months.

  • August 3rd 2017: Israeli forces confiscated several documents and stamps after storming and searching the home of the Chairman of Anata youth club during their raid into Anata town.
  • August 10th 2017: Israeli forces confiscated several computers after they stormed and searched Al-Mustaqil Media Center during their raid into Al-Eizariya town.

Ramallah:

  • August 3rd 2017: Israeli forces confiscated 25000 NIS after storming and searching the home of Ibrahim Mohammad Jaber Al-Shiekh {A National Security Force Officer} during their raid into Al-Jalazoun camp.
  • August 31st 2017:  Israeli forces confiscated recording and studio equipment from the home of Nazal Omar Abu Khurma during their raid into Kafr Ein village

Jenin:

  • August 28th 2017: Israeli forces confiscated a computer after storming the home of Jihad Abu Salah and Imad Abu Salah during their raid into Arraba town.

Tubas:

  • August 27th 2017: Israeli forces confiscated a Vegetable shipping truck owned by Ahmad Thiyab Abu Khazaran near Sahil Al-Baqi'a area located in the North Jordan valley then destroyed its cargo of vegetables

Nablus:

  • August 1rd 2017: Israeli forces confiscated a Solid Waste truck owned by Qabalan Municipality near Yanun village.
  • August 8th 2017: Israeli forces confiscated a truck owned by Mohammad Ali Sa'adeh during their raid into Huwara town.
  • August 16th 2017: Israeli forces confiscated 4 truck owned by Al-Tamimi Company at Za’tara Military checkpoint.
  • August 29th 2017: Israeli forces confiscated surveillance camera footage after storming a Gas Station during their raid into Al-Zawiya town.

Salfit:

  • August 24th 2017: Israeli forces confiscated 1600 NIS after storming and searching the home of Ahmad Marwan Salah Boziya during their raid into Kafil Harris town after detaining him
  • August 30th 2017: Israeli forces confiscated surveillance camera footage after storming a merchant shop owned by Taysir Mohammad Sultan Al-Hindi during their raid into Harris village.

Bethlehem:

  • August 22nd 2017: Israeli forces confiscated several Mobile homes used as classroom for the main school in JIn Al-Thib village for allegedly being built without a licence
  • August 27th 2017: Israeli forces confiscated surveillance camera footage as they stormed a boy’s school during their raid into Betar village.

Hebron:

  • August 2nd 2017: Israeli forces confiscated a vehicle and cash after storming and searching the family home of Mohammad Abdel-Basset Al-Haroub {A Palestinian Detainee} during their raid into Deir Sammit village.
  • August 7th 2017: Israeli forces confiscated a vehicle owned by Nidal Shihadeh Jabarin during their raid into Al-Thahriya town.
  • August 12th 2017: Israeli forces confiscated a truck from "Abu Shikhidum" Car lot during their raid into Hebron city.
  • August 17th 2017: Israeli forces confiscated a vehicle owned by Mahmoud Abdel-Hadi Al-Huwar and confiscated 5500 NIS in cash and Gold Jewelry from the home of Khader Ahmad Ghanimat as they stormed and searched 6 homes during their raid into Surif town.
  • August 24th  2017: Israeli forces confiscated 1600 NIS after storming and searching the home of Ahmad Marwan Salah Boziya during their raid into Kafil Harris town after detaining him
  • August 31ST 2017: Israeli forces confiscated radio equipment as they closed “Manbar Al-Huriya” {Freedom Platform} radio station during their raid into Hebron city.

North Gaza:

  • August 11th 2017: Israeli forces confiscated several computers after they stormed and searched Al-Mustaqil Media Center during their raid into Al-Eizariya town.

Settlement Activity:

Jerusalem:

  • August 25th 2017:  Israeli forces opened a Jewish Synagogue in Silwan neighborhood in Jerusalem city.

Bethlehem:

  • August 3rd 2017: The Israeli Prime Minister placed the Corner stone for the construction of 1100 settlement units in "Betar Eliyat" which is located in Wadi Fuqin village.
  • August 16th 2017: Israeli settlers installed 10 Mobile homes inside "Betar Aliyat settlement" located on land in Nihalin, Husan and Wadi Fuqin villages.
  • August 17th 2017: Israeli forces stormed Um Al-Khier village located in east Yatta town and levelled several plots of land owned by Abu Hameed Familiy which is located near "Karma'il" settlement located in the east area.

Hebron:

  • August 24th 2017: Israeli Military leveled a plot of land owned by the Zien, Abu Hameed and Al-Hathalin families located near "Karama'il" settlement in east Yatta town for the purpose of expanding the settlement during which Israeli forces assaulted a resident.

Settler Violence

26 incidents of Settler violence occurred during the month of August 2017 including:

Jerusalem:

  • August 10th 2017: an Israeli settlers driving a vehicle ran over 4 children: Anas Al-Haymouni {9 years old}, Yusef Mazen Ruman {7 years old}, Ameer Abu Subeih {10 years old} and Hamza Abu Subeih {6 years old} near Silwan neighborhood in Jerusalem and as a result left them hospitalized.
  • August 12th 2017: Israeli forces stormed Al-Sheikh Jarah neighborhood in Jerusalem city and stoned residents and vehicles.

Ramallah:

  • August 3rd 2017: Israeli settlers positioned near "Bet El" settlement located in North Al-Bireh city stoned residents and vehicles travelling along the main road leading to Al-Jalazoun camp and as a result damaged the vehicle of Rafiq Abu Aliya
  • August 4th 2017: a group of Israeli settlers stormed Qubar village, opened fire towards several residents and as a result injured 2 residents then withdrew at 10:00.
  • August 9th 2017: Israeli settlers stormed Um Safa village, set fire to 2 vehicles and spray painted racist graffiti

Jenin:

  • August 3rd 2017: Israeli settlers positioned near "Movo Dotan" Military checkpoint located in south Yabad town as they were carrying batons and provoked residents
  • August 26th 2017: Israeli settlers stormed Um Safa village, set fire to 2 vehicles and spray painted racist graffiti.

Tubas:

  • August 5th  2017: A Israeli settler opened fire towards several residents as he was driving his vehicle along the main road  in Khirbeit Al-deir

Nablus:

  • August 2nd 2017: Israeli settlers raided Nablus city as they attempted to storm {Joseph's Tomb} then were chased away by Palestinian Police Officers guarding the site.
  • August 5th 2017:
  • August 8th 2017: Israeli settlers from "Yitmar" settlement set fire to agricultural land planted with Citrus fruit tree in Aqraba town during which Palestinian Civil Defense forces were able to extinguish the flames.
  • August 12th 2017: a group of Israeli settlers positioned in the area between Nablus city and Huwwara Military checkpoint {located at the south entrance of Nablus}
  • August 23rd 2017: a group of Israeli settlers driving a vehicle stormed Nablus city in an attempt to raid Joseph's Tomb during which they attempted to run over a Palestinian Police officer who was guarding the site and as a result left him hospitalized with contusions during which the settlers vehicle rammed into the steel barricade at the site and where handed over to Israeli Military forces by the Palestinian Police.
  • August 24th 2017: a group of Israeli settlers under the protection of Israeli Police forces positioned near "Yitzhar" settlement junction and provoked several residents.

Bethlehem:

  • August 8th 2017: Israeli settlers positioned in the area between Husan and Al-Ju'ba villages stoned vehicle passing along the main road connecting the villages.
  • August 11th 2017: Israeli settlers stormed agricultural land in Wadi Fuqin village.
  • August 16th 2017: Israeli settlers installed 10 Mobile homes inside "Betar Aliyat settlement" located on land in Nihalin, Husan and Wadi Fuqin villages.

Hebron:

  • August 4th 2017: Israeli settlers stormed Jaber neighborhood in the old city of Hebron, stoned several residents and as a result injured 4 residents.
  • August 5th 2017: Israeli settlers stormed Jaber neighborhood in the old city of Hebron and stoned several homes.
  • August 11th 2017: a group of Israeli settlers chased a child and threw stones towards the home of Kayed Da'ana in Wadi Al-Hussien near "Kiryat Arba'" settlement located in east Hebron city.
  • August 18th 2017: Israeli settlers from "Kiryat Arba'" settlement located in east Hebron city stoned homes owned by Jamal Sa'afin, Jamil Sa'afin and Abdel-Hay Sa'afin located near the settlement.
  • August 28th 2017: a group of Israeli settlers from "Kiryat Arba" settlement located in the old city of Hebron assaulted Ahmad Manour Jaber {13 years old} as he was riding his horse and as a result left him hospitalized with contusions.
  • August 29th 2017: a group of Israeli settlers from "Karam'il" settlement located near Um Al-Khier village in east Yatta town threw glass bottles towards residents and homes.

Closure of Crossing Points

The Israeli military completely closed crossing points into the Gaza Strip, including access points within the Green Line, on 160 occasions during the month of August 2017. The Israeli military closed crossing points within the Green Line on 105 occasions. It opened Beit Hanun (Erez) Crossing for 27 days for previously-coordinated humanitarian cases and foreign nationals and Karm Abu Salem (Karem Shalom) Crossing for 23 days for transportation of food supplies, humanitarian aid, and cooking gas. In addition to allowing in animal feed, construction cargo designated for UNRWA and internationally-funded projects was transported through the Crossing. Sufa Crossing was closed throughout the month. On the other hand, the Israeli authorities have continued to unilaterally close Ash Shuja’iya (Nahal ‘Oz) Crossing. Beginning on 02 March 2011, the Israeli authorities has also continued to completely close Al Muntar (Karnei) Commercial Crossing.

 

 

 

The Israeli military closed international crossing points on 55 occasions. Rafah Crossing was open for 7 days. Yasser Arafat International Airport has remained closed since the outbreak of the second Intifada.
