MONTHLY SUMMARY OF ISRAELI VIOLATIONS

01 May 2020 – 31 May 2020

The following summary tables and overview of events survey hostile Israeli activities during the period 01 May 2020 to May 31 2020. The report includes a summary table of events, classified by type, throughout the West Bank and Gaza Strip, in addition to a comparative table surveying events over the past three months. The survey is compiled from the Daily Situation Reports of the Palestinian Monitoring Group (PMG) of the Negotiations Affairs Department (NAD) of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). The PMG monitors ground conditions in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, including Israeli and Palestinian violations. The information reported through the PMG process represents data available at the time of distribution only.

04.05.2020: Israeli forces raided Aqbat Jabr camp in Jericho city, clashed with several residents and as a result injured Yusef Naseem Muqiti {17 years old}. 07.05.2020: Israeli forces injured the child Ameer Ziyad Rushdi Yusef {15 years old}{a residents of Far'oun village} near the separation wall near Far'oun village after they assaulted him and as a result leaving him hospitalized with contusions, fractures and internal bleeding in the pelvis and collarbone area. 08.05.2020: The two wounded fishermen, as a result of the shooting by Israeli gunboats, towards the boats of the fishermen at sea, off the shore of the Sudanese area, west of the town of Beit Lahia, are: Majed Fadl Bakr and Amran Sabri Bakr. 10.05.2020: Israeli forces positioned near the entrance of Al-Fuwwar camp fired live ammunition, rubber coated steel bullets, stun and tear gas canisters towards several residents for alleged stoning and as a result injured 3 children: Murad Bassam Al-Bayed {12 years old}, Abdullah Fayez Abu Hashhash {16 years old}, and Salah Mahmoud Abu Wardah {16 years old} and detained a child. 13.05.2020: , Israeli forces the Israeli occupation forces fired rubber-coated metal bullets and sound and tear gas canisters towards several resident during their raid into Al-Fawar camp, and as a result killed a child: Ziyad Fadil Qisat {15 years old}{a resident of Al-Thahriya town and injured 4 residents {including 1 critically injured}. 14.05.2020: Israeli forces positioned near the North entrance of Beit Ummar town opened fire towards a vehicle and as a result killed the driver: Baha Al-Din Mohammad Abdallah Al-Awawadeh {18 years old}{a resident of Deir Sammit village}  {for allegedly running over a Israeli soldier}. 14.05.2020: Israeli forces positioned near Al-Arrub camp fired live ammunition, rubber coated steel bullets, and stun and tear gas canisters towards several residents for alleged stoning and as a result injured the child: Obiedat Imad Al-Ra'in {16 years old. 15.05.2020: the Israeli occupation forces fired rubber-coated metal bullets and tear gas and tear gas at several residents of Al-'Eizariya town for alleged stoning, which resulted in the injury of a child: Mohammad Ahmad Abu Da'mous {4 years old}  and as a result left him hospitalized with a fractured nose after a tear gas canisters struck him in the face. 15.05.2020: Israeli forces raided Ya'bad town, stormed and searched several homes after blasting open the home entrance owned by Adnan Hamasrhat {a special needs patient} using explosives and as a result left him with head injuries then proceeded to assault 3 residents leaving them hospitalized with contusions and detained a resident. 15.05.2020: Israeli forces assaulted 3 residents: Alaa Hamarsheh, Anas Adnan Hamarsheh, and his brother Omar  during their raid into Ya'bad town and as a result left them hospitalized with contusions. 18.05.2020: a Israeli settler positioned along Salah Al-Din road in the old city of Jerusalem attacked and stabbed a child with a knife and as a result left the child Mohammad Al-Natsha {17 years old} hospitalized. 29.05.2020: Israeli forces positioned in Wadi Raya area located near Al-Nabi Saleh village opened fire towards a resident driving a vehicle and as a result killing Fadi Sarhan Adnan Samara {33 years old} {a resident of Abu Qash village} during which clashed with several resident and as a result injured a resident {who was struck by live ammunition to his leg}. 30.05.2020: Israeli forces opened fire towards and killed Eyad Khairy Rawhi Al-Halaq {32 years old} {a special needs patient} {a resident of Wadi Al-Juz neighborhood in Jerusalem} in the old city of Jerusalem. 31.05.2020: Israeli forces positioned at the bypass road near Kafr Malik village fired rubber coated steel bullets, stun and tear gas canisters towards Rasem Soliman Ghanimat Arrat {15 years old}{a resident of Kafr Malik village}and as a result injured him then detained him.

Injuries	75	4	79	A total of 79 injuries were reported in the month of May 2020 {75 Palestinians in the West Bank and 4 in the Gaza Strip). Injuries included 8 children, 3 fisherman and Journalist.
Attacks	103	104	207	A total of 207 attacks were reported to have taken place during the month of May 2020 (103 in the West Bank and 104 in the Gaza Strip). The Israeli military carried out 59 attacks from Israeli military post on civilian homes and property, 67 from Military checkpoints towards Palestinian residents and vehicle and 36 during raids into Civilian populated areas. In addition, Israeli navy vessels carried out 45 attacks on Palestinian fishermen and territory.
Raids	195	5	200	The Israeli military carried out a total of 200 raids in Palestinian residential areas during the month of May 2020, including 195 in the West Bank and 5 in the Gaza Strip. The majority of Israeli military raids were reported to have taken place in the districts of Jerusalem (36); Ramallah (23); Jenin (27); Tubas (2); Tulkarem (18); Qalqiliya (13); Nablus (19); Salfit (6); Jericho (6); Bethlehem (12); Hebron (33), Gaza (2), Central Gaza (2) and Khan Yunis (1) .
Arrests	318	3	321	During the month of May 2020, the Israeli military arrested 321 Palestinians (318 in the West Bank and 3 in the Gaza Strip). The majority of arrests took place in the districts of Jerusalem (129); Ramallah (34); Jenin (45); Tulkarem (11); Qalqiliya (16); Nablus (15); Salfit (4); Jericho (4); Bethlehem (18); Hebron (42) and North Gaza (3).Among those arrested by the Israeli military were 25 children, 3 Women, 1 Journalist, 3 University students and 8 Security Force Officers.
Deportation	9	-	9	During  the month of May 2020 Israeli Authorities deported 9 residents from their place of residence which included the following: On 06.05.2020, Israeli authorities in Jerusalem city issued orders deporting the detainee Nihad Zughier {a resident of Jerusalem city} from his home in Al-Ram town for a period of 15 days and fined him 10000 NIS as a condition for his release after being detained at "Jalbou'" detention center for 35 months. On the morning of 20.05.2020, Israeli authorities in Jerusalem city issue an order banning Hamza Nimr {a Security Guard at Al-Aqsa mosque compound} from entering Al-Aqsa mosque compound for a period of 1 week as a condition for his release after being detained at an earlier time. At dawn on 26.05.2020, Israeli authorities in Jerusalem city issued orders to expelling Hamza Nimr {a Security Guard at Al-Aqsa mosque compound} from his work place at Al-Aqsa mosque compound after he was summoned by Israeli police to the Police station in Jerusalem city. On 28.05.2020, the occupation authorities in the city of Jerusalem handed over a decision to deport the citizen: Anan Najib, from his place of residence in the city of Jerusalem (according to the decision, he will be informed of the period of deportation within 72 hours), as a condition for his release after he arrested him earlier.  On 29. 05. 2020 The occupation authorities in Jerusalem served a decision to deport Sheikh Akrama Sabri, head of the Supreme Islamic Authority and preacher of al-Aqsa Mosque, for a week from al-Aqsa Mosque, as a condition of his release after he was arrested from his home in the city's Al-Sawana neighborhood, and took him for interrogation at a Israeli Police station.  On 29. 05. 2020 The occupation authorities in Jerusalem served a decision to remove the teacher, Hanadi al-Helwani, for one week from the Al-Aqsa Mosque, as a condition of her release after she was arrested near Bab al-Asbat (one of the doors leading to the Al-Aqsa Mosque) in the Old City of Jerusalem. On 29. 05. 2020 The occupation authorities in Jerusalem served a decision to deport Maher Muheisen, head of the Jerusalem Scout Commission, for one week from al-Aqsa Mosque, as a condition of his release after summoning him to investigate. On 30.05.2020, Israeli authorities in Jerusalem city issued orders banning 2 residents: Journalist - Sindas Aweys, Raeda Saeed Al Khalili from entering Al-Aqsa mosque compound as a condition for their release after being detained at an earlier time.
Temporary Detention	31	-	31	The Israeli Military Temporarily detained 31 residents during the month of May 2020 including: 05.05.2020: Israeli authorities in Jerusalem city issued a home detention order for Moath Al-Ash'hab {a resident of Jerusalem city} for a period of 5 days, imposed a fine and prevented him from contacting Billal Al-Natsha for a period of 15 days. 06.05.2020:  the Israeli occupation forces positioned near the main entrance to Kisan village detained the volunteers at the roadblock set up by the emergency committee at the village entrance to control the movement of citizens in order to limit the spread of the "Corona" virus, and later released them after they seized the Palestinian flags that were installed in the place, as they threatened The volunteers need to leave the checkpoint and not return to it again, otherwise they will be arrested, on the pretext that the checkpoint is close to the main street through which the settlers pass, in addition to the proximity to the colony of "Maali Amos" located south of the village. 06.05.2020: Israeli authorities in Jerusalem imposed a house arrest on General - Bilal Al-Natsheh (Secretary General of the National People's Congress for Jerusalem) - residents of the city of Jerusalem, for a period of 5 days in addition to a financial guarantee from a third party, and not to communicate with the Palestinian National Authority For two months, as a condition for his release after having arrested him earlier. 07.05.2020:  the occupation authorities in Jerusalem imposed a house arrest on the citizen: Muhammad Ahmad Abu Nab - residents of the Silwan neighborhood of Jerusalem, for a period of 14 days, in addition to a financial guarantee of 5,000 NIS, as a condition for his release after he had arrested him earlier 08.05.2020:  the occupation authorities imposed a house arrest on Yahya Maher Zuhair - residents of the Silwan neighborhood of Jerusalem, for a period of 10 days, in addition to a financial guarantee of 5,000 shekels, as a condition for his release after he had arrested him earlier. 09.05.2020: 15.05.2020:  Israeli authorities in Jerusalem city issued order to place 2 residents: Amir Abdul Rahman, and Ali Jaber {both are residents of Silwan neighborhood in Jerusalem city} under home detention for a period of 5 days in addition to fining them as a condition for their release after being detained at an earlier time. 23.05.2020: Israeli forces temporarily detained 2 residents {including a woman and her child}: Suhayla Mohammad Abu Bakr and her son Ayman Nathmi Abu Bakr {16 years old} during their raid into Ya'bad town then released them at a later time. 24.05.2020: Israeli forces detained Shadi Al-Mutawar -{a resident of the city of Jerusalem}, and released him after several hours of investigation (on the pretext of working for the Palestinian National Authority to limit the spread of Corona virus and distribute aid to The people of the city of Jerusalem), in addition to a financial guarantee of 3000 shekels, and preventing him from traveling to any  24.05.2020: Israeli forces positioned near Lions gate {Al-Asbat gate} {a main entrance leading to Al-Aqsa mosque compound} in the old city of Jerusalem detained Abdel-Ghani Al-Amari then released him at a later time. 25.05.2020:  Israeli authorities in Jerusalem city issued orders to place Nihad Al-Zaghier under home detention as condition for her release after she was detained at an earlier time.

Flying Checkpoints	294	0	294	The Israeli military set up 294 Flying checkpoints in the month of May 2020 and searched Palestinian civilians and vehicles in and around Palestinian residential areas in the districts of Jerusalem (7); Ramallah 21); Jenin (6);Tubas (1), Tulkarem (4); Qalqiliya (72); Nablus (38); Salfit (23); Jericho (22); Bethlehem (57) and Hebron (43).
Destruction of Public and Private property	54	-	54	Damages included home furniture, vehicles, Olive trees, barrack’s and demolished structures.
Confiscation of Public and Private property	18	-	18	Confiscations included vehicles, surveillance camera footage, private property and equipment.
Land Confiscation	3	-	3	On 02.05.2020, Israeli forces confiscated 140 dunums of agricultural land planted with Olive and Almond trees located in Azzun Atma village which is located behind the separation wall in order to construct a Cemetery for a settlement in the area. On 27. 05.2020, the Israeli court in Jerusalem issued a decision to confiscate a piece of land in the Wadi Rababa neighbourhood in the Silwan neighbourhood of Jerusalem, with an area of ​​1.5 dunums, owned by the residents of the neighbourhood, on the pretext of using it as a cemetery for the Jews. On 29.05.2020,Israeli forces confiscated a plot of land {3.5 dunums/acres} owned by Abu Bakr family located near a military checkpoint located near "Movo Dotan" settlement in south Y'abad town for settlement expansion purposes.
Home Demolitions	9	-	9	During the month of May 2020, the Israeli military demolished 9 Palestinian homes and residential tents, which consisted of the following:  10.05.2020: Israeli forces demolished a home {consisting of 2 floors and approximately 200 m2 each floor} owned by the family of Qassim Al-Barghouthi {a Palestinian Detainee} during their raid into Kobar town.  14.05.2020: Israeli forces demolished a storage den {used as housing} and several tents owned by residents near Al-Taybeh town.  24.05.2020: Israeli forces demolished a tent used for habitation in addition to a livestock shed owned by Hazem Hashem Abu Mohammad, in the wilderness of the village of Za'tara, in the pretext of not licensing then confiscated the tent. 27.05.2020:  the occupation authorities in the Wadi Hilweh district of the Silwan neighbourhood of Jerusalem city, the citizen: Nasser Siyam, were forced to demolish by himself the addition of a building to his house after notifying him earlier, to avoid paying heavy fines in the event that the occupation authorities carried out the demolition process, on the pretext of No license. 27.05.2020: Israeli forces demolished a home {under construction} owned by Ibrahim Ibiniyat in Beit Dajan village for allegedly being built without a license. 28.05.2020: The occupation authorities in the Jabal Al-Mukabber neighborhood of Jerusalem city forced Rasmiya Kassab Bashir to demolish her 85-square-meter house after notifying her earlier, in order to avoid paying heavy fines in the event that the occupation authorities carried out the demolition process, on the pretext of not licensing.  29. 05. 2020: The occupation authorities in the Ain Al-Loza area in the Silwan neighborhood of Jerusalem, forced Fares al-Khalis to demolish his house (under construction) after notifying him earlier, in order to avoid paying heavy fines in the event of the demolition by the occupation authorities, on the grounds of non-authorization.  30.05.2020: Israeli authorities forced 2 residents:Ahmed Mohammed Suleiman Mashahra (120 square meters of house area) and his brother Imad (80 square meters of his house) to demolish their homes {under construction} After notifying them earlier, in order to avoid paying heavy fines in the event of the demolition by the occupation authorities, on the grounds of non-authorization.
Settler Violence	44	-	44	Israeli settler stoned residents and vehicles, stormed homes, uprooted trees, assaulted residents, ran over children with their vehicles, stormed several villages and towns and slashed the tires of residential vehicle.
Attacks on Religious Sites	2	-	2	Israeli settler raided the vicinity of Al-Aqsa mosque compound in the old city of Jerusalem on several occasions. At dawn on 29. 05. 2020 The occupying forces in the Old City of Hebron prevented the caller for prayer at Al-Ibrahimi mosque{ Tomb of the Patriarchs} from making the call for dawn prayers, and prevented citizens from the mosque , and allowed only a few to pray inside, while expelling citizens who had gathered to pray in the outer courtyards of the campus. On 30.05.2020: groups of extremist settlers, under the protection of the occupation police, stormed the courtyards of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, and made provocative tours of its courtyards and facilities.
Settlement Activity	3	-	3	On 05.05.2020, Israeli settler under the protection of the Israeli Military entered civilian owned agricultural land in Dura town and paved a road to be used by "Negahot" settlement located on civilian owned land in west Dura town. On 06.05.2020, the Israeli Minister of Defence Naftali Bennett approved plans for the construction of 7000 new settlement units on land {approximately 1100 dunums} in Al-Khader town in Bethlehem district in order to expand Efrat settlement. On 19.05.2020, The occupying forces continued (for the second day in a row), dredging the agricultural land of the citizens located near Hawara camp, to pave the street, which reaches 7 km long, through which 406 dunums will be confiscated "in the first phase", from the lands of the towns of Bieta, Hawara and the villages of Awarta, Burin, Yitma, Sawa and Yassuf.
Land Levelling	2	-	2	On 18. 05. 2020, Israeli forces positioned in the area between The Villages of Shufa and Kafa, an area estimated at 15 dunums of olive trees, located west of Avni Hafetz settlement, owned by Hamed family and, the residents of the village of Kafa, and Aref Yaacoub. On 27.05.2020, Israeli forces levelled a plot of agricultural land located at the north entrance of Huwara town.

Killings

A total of 4 residents were killed by Israeli forces during the month of May 2020 {4 in the West Bank and 0 in Gaza}:

• 13.05.2020: Israeli forces killed the child: Ziyad Fadil Qisat {15 years old} {a resident of Al-Thahriya town} during clashes in Al-Fawar camp.
• 14.05.2020: Israeli forces positioned near the North entrance of Beit Ummar town killed Baha Al-Din Mohammad Abdallah Al-Awawadeh {18 years old} {a resident of Deir Sammit village} after opening fire towards his vehicle.
• 29.05.2020: Israeli forces opened fire towards and killed Fadi Sarhan Adnan Samara {33 years old}{a resident of Abu Qash village} as he was driving his vehicle in Wadi Raya area located near Al-Nabi Saleh village.

Injuries

A total of 79 injuries were reported in the month of May 2020 {75 Palestinians in the West Bank and 4 in the Gaza Strip). Injuries included 8 children, 3 fisherman and Journalist.

Arrests

During the month of May 2020, the Israeli military arrested 321 Palestinians (318 in the West Bank and 3 in the Gaza Strip). The majority of arrests took place in the districts of Jerusalem (129); Ramallah (34); Jenin (45); Tulkarem (11); Qalqiliya (16); Nablus (15); Salfit (4); Jericho (4); Bethlehem (18); Hebron (42) and North Gaza (3).Among those arrested by the Israeli military were 25 children, 3 Women, 1 Journalist, 3 University students and 8 Security Force Officers.

 

Closure

Especially on Fridays, the Israeli military continues to intensify restrictions at checkpoints located at the entrances of Jerusalem, and to restrict entrance to the Al Aqsa Mosque compound in the old city of Jerusalem, preventing worshippers from accessing the Mosque. At the Qalandiya checkpoint north of Jerusalem, the Israeli military continues to prevent PNA registered civilian vehicles from crossing the checkpoint towards Ar Ram and Qalandiya as well as Dahiyat al Bareed. The checkpoint is overcrowded daily, particularly during rush hours, due to intensified restrictions and search measures applied by Israeli troops. During the month of February 2020,he Israeli military also continued to intensify restrictions at the Tayasir checkpoint and Al Hamra junction checkpoint leading to the Jordan Valley area, only allowing access to civilians whose IDs indicate District of Jericho residence or others holding special access permits. In addition, restrictions were intensified and civilian access was obstructed at the Za’tara junction checkpoint (separating the northern and central West Bank districts) as well as at the As Sawahira ash Sharqiya (the ‘Container’) checkpoint (separating the central and southern West Bank districts).

The Israeli military installed 294 flying checkpoints in May 2020 (206 in March 2020 compared with 132 in April 2020 and as a result restricted the free access and movement of residents, merchant supplies and agricultural goods.

The Israeli military carried out a total of 200 raids in Palestinian residential areas during the month of May 2020, including 195 in the West Bank and 5 in the Gaza Strip. The majority of Israeli military raids were reported to have taken place in the districts of Jerusalem (36); Ramallah (23); Jenin (27); Tubas (2); Tulkarem (18); Qalqiliya (13); Nablus (19); Salfit (6); Jericho (6); Bethlehem (12); Hebron (33), Gaza (2), Central Gaza (2) and Khan Yunis (1) .

Attacks on residential areas in West Bank districts

 

During the month of May 2020, the Israeli military demolished 9 Palestinian homes and residential tents, which consisted of the following: 

• 10.05.2020: Israeli forces demolished a home {consisting of 2 floors and approximately 200 m2 each floor} owned by the family of Qassim Al-Barghouthi {a Palestinian Detainee} during their raid into Kobar town.
•  14.05.2020: Israeli forces demolished a storage den {used as housing} and several tents owned by residents near Al-Taybeh town.
